The Wire: Season Three
Sadly, the most passionate and persuasive argument in recent years against the current disposition of the government's stance in the so-called "War on Drugs" came not from a think tank armed with stats and big ideas or a celebrity eager for a cause, but from a TV show.

ARTS & CULTURE
It takes an exceptionally talented comic to slay a room with jokes about childhood trauma. Not pedestrian traumas like the old monster in the closet, but genuine wounds ? the kind you could juice for twenty years in therapy, if you had the desire and the economic wherewithal.

Optimism needed now more than ever
President-elect Barack Obama made a simple observation Wednesday about the current economic crisis that some people may have missed. Something that, in our despair, we seem to have thrown out with the bath water.

Make 'Em Laugh examines comedy greats
By John Grooms Too often, books created to accompany major PBS documentary series make a crucial mistake: They try to reproduce the series, using still pictures and text. With a couple of notable exceptions (Ken Burns' The War and Lewis and Clark), it rarely works, and what had promised to be great coffee table books turn into dust collectors bound for the used bookstore. Fortunately, the ...

The always-introspective Barzelay has stated that his modus operandi as a lyricist is "playing ironic head games with people" and if that's the case, he sure wins with the title track, "Lose Big." After one listen, it is still unclear who this emotive alt-country ballad is really about: the girl he's swooning over or himself?

MGMT, The Forum, London
Of all the Brooklyn exports to the British music scene, MGMT span the most musical generations with their blend of Sixties synth-fuelled psychedelia, Bowie influences and rock. That tickets for tonight sold out in June and touts are selling them for £100 outside is testimony to their meteoric rise.

Many Cache Valley residents live a good part of their lives through an alter-ego: their anonymous Internet chat personality. As we all know, these alter-egos are generally more bold, sarcastic and critical than the personalty their owners present to the public.
