The Planski: Ralph Nader's back, and he's got a posse
Nader speaks truth to power. It's why he's running his fourth presidential campaign. He is nothing if not a grim revealer of malfeasance, sardonic challenger of dogmas, and happy champion of alternatives. And judging by the passion visible on the faces of his supporters here Friday night, Nader's truth-telling is reaching an audience.

New heights reached in "Seagull" translation
When you see that a well-known, oft-performed play has been given a new translation, the reaction is likely to be a yawn. After all, other than a word here or there to have a sentence fall more easily on the ear, what could be changed with a work familiar to so many people?

The Duchess (12A)
There are few surprises in The Duchess, other than the director: Saul Dibb, who made punchy street drama Bullet Boy before going upmarket with the BBC's The Line of Beauty. In The Duchess, the sobriety of Dibb's approach makes for an intelligent addition to the historical canon: though perhaps here I, to use an appropriately 18th-century expression, damn with faint praise.

Disaster Movie
When you've hit rock bottom and the last glimmer of hope has disappeared, the only way is up, isn't it? Apparently not, as Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer demonstrate so emphatically with their latest scattershot spoof, boasting a snappy title that sums up both the film's thematic targets and its pitiful quality.

Senate candidate did not file campaign reports
LEESBURG ? Mark Tate's legal drama ended Tuesday almost exactly where it began. "Tens of thousands of dollars and bunches of crap, and that's how it ends. I have to pay a fine again," said Tate, with a bit of a sardonic chuckle.
