THE BUZZ: Big deals in baseball
The Giants signed Edgar Renteria (below), giving him a two-year, $18.5 million contract to replace 11-time Gold Glove shortstop Omar Vizquel. Renteria is a five-time NL All-Star and has spent 11 of his 13 major league seasons in the National League. The Giants do not plan to bring Vizquel, 41, back with the club.
