The 2008 Give-A-Christmas donations continue to climb higher as Herald-Standard readers donated $1,078 Thursday, bringing the total to $3,681.

Girls hoops got next
SUGAR CITY -- Four high school girls basketball teams squared off at Sugar-Salem High School Tuesday night in a preseason jamboree. Varsity girls from North Fremont, Sugar-Salem, Madison, and Century high schools scrimmaged in round-robin style. The goal for the night was simple: get used to playing basketball again.

WINSTON-SALEM (AP) ? A 15-year-old basketball player was in critical condition after he collapsed during a junior varsity game. A Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools spokesman says 15-year-old Khalid Prince of Parkland High School collapsed at about 6 p.m. Tuesday while running during a junior varsity game.
