Salem man dies in crash
GALENA ? Randy Purlee, 58, of Salem, was killed in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday in Floyd County. Clean-up at the site required that the road be closed from the time the accident occurred at about 2 p.m. Tuesday until Wednesday evening.

Salem, power plant strike deal
SALEM and mdash; The city announced a three-year deal yesterday with its largest taxpayer, Salem Harbor Station. Virginia-based Dominion, which owns the power plant, will continue to pay the city $4.75 million a year through 2011 under the agreement, which was announced during a press conference at City Hall yesterday afternoon.

Salem wins home opener
SALEM ? Salem?s Amy Scullion scored eight of her game-high 19 points in the final quarter as the Lady Quakers pulled away from the Beaver Local Lady Beavers Wednesday taking home the win, 41-29. The fourth quarter proved troublesome for the visiting Lady Beavers.

SALEM - Despite heading into halftime down five, Beaver Local wasn't able to close the gap down the stretch, losing to Salem 41-29 Wednesday. Amy Scullion was the headline for the Quakers (2-0). Her 19 points was a team high; she also went 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

Indians fall to Somers/North Salem, Monroe-Woodbury at tournament
MAHOPAC - The Mahopac High ice hockey team opened the season with a pair of losses at the White Plains tournament last week. The Indians dropped a 1-0 decision Saturday to Monroe-Woodbury, after losing to Somers/North Salem, 6-2, one night earlier at the Ebersole rink in White Plains.

Demon Deacons smash Gamecocks in Wintson-Salem matinee matchup
