Santa Paula might divide itself into elementary and high school districts, but school board candidates in each district are talking about many of the same issues. Those issues include strengthening academics, possibly unifying the districts and improving facilities.

Morning brush fire burns 30 acres in Santa Paula
As Santa Ana winds heightened concerns about potential firestorms, about 200 firefighters rushed to Santa Paula on Monday morning to squelch a brush fire near an oil production facility. The fire was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. near an oil production company in the hills above South Mountain Road near Santa Paula.

Wildfire Erupts Near Oil Facility In Santa Paula
Ventura County firefighters are nearing containment on a 30-acre wildfire near a Santa Paula oil facility. Fire Capt. Ron Oatman said water-dropping helicopters helped ground crews get the blaze 75 percent surrounded by 10 a.m. and full containment was expected within hours. There were no injuries and no structures were damaged.
