Gamecocks hold on to beat Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. -- Quarterback Chris Smelley passed for three touchdowns and cornerback Carlos Thomas snuffed a last-ditch rally with an interception with 13 seconds to play lifting the University of South Carolina to a 31-24 win Saturday over Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

If there was any question who South Carolina's starting quarterback is, Chris Smelley gave an emphatic answer today. Smelley passed for a career-high 327 yards and three touchdowns, led a 95-yard game-clinching drive and helped South Carolina to its first Southeastern Conference win in a 31-24 win over Mississippi.
