Sand hinders efforts to fight Island fire
Firefighters were monitoring a grass fire late Thursday on Padre Island after attempts to get through deep sand to reach it failed. Battalion Chief Abel Pulido said the fire started about 4:15 p.m. in an area that is about 100 acres.
