Opera is a 1987 Italian "giallo" horror film written and directed by Dario Argento.
Plot synopsis
A young opera singer (Betty) gets her big chance when the previous star of a production of Verdi's Macbeth is run over by a car. Convinced the opera is bad luck she accepts, and becomes the target (in Argento's unmistakable style) of a psychopath - a man she has been dreaming of since childhood.
Cast
Alternate Versions
- Available in both R and Unrated versions.
- The recent Anchor Bay release is the unrated version, containing all the gore and violence.
- In the UK, 47 seconds were cut for the original UK cinema release, however for video, the BBFC demanded further cuts and the distributors cut additional footage. As a result 3 min 27 seconds were cut in total.
- The film's premiere at Cannes had an English dub track that was reportedly laughed off the screen. When Orion Pictures got the U.S. rights to the film, they produced a new English dub, which is the soundtrack most commonly used for the film. The DVD released in the UK by Arrow Films contains the infamous 'Cannes track.'
