In policy debate, the Negative (NEG) is the team which negates the resolution.

The negative team speaks second and second to last. They give four speeches:

• First negative constructive (1NC)
• Second negative constructive (2NC)
• First negative rebuttal (1NR)
• Second negative rebuttal (2NR)
