Church of Kitee

Kitee is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 10,024 (2003) and covers an area of 1,141.75 km² of which 276.87 km² (nearly 25%) is water. The population density is 11.1 inhabitants per km².

The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality has previously also been known as "Kides" in Swedish documents, but is today referred to as "Kitee" also in Swedish.^[1]

Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish and soprano Tarja Turunen are from Kitee.
