In Norse mythology, Fólkvangr ("field of the host"[1]) is the dwelling of Freyja in Asgard, the world of the Æsir, where stands Sessrúmnir, her hall. Extrapolation from the sources (mainly Gylfaginning) would imply an idyllic land where love songs played constantly. However, Freya was also said to receive half of those slain on the battlefield, which might account for the martial sounding meaning of her realm.
